Your Puppy’s Official Thanksgiving Job Description
Qualifications: Four paws, an excellent nose, and absolutely no respect for the organizational chart.
Thanksgiving is a lot of work. There’s cooking, decorating, cleaning, setting the table, and making sure everyone has somewhere to sit.
Fortunately, your puppy has decided to help.
Nobody hired them. Nobody asked for volunteers. But sometime between the first grocery bag arriving and the oven being switched on, your puppy appointed themselves Head of Holiday Operations.
We’ve obtained a copy of their official job description. Human Resources has several concerns.
Chief Crumb Inspection Officer
Primary responsibility: Maintain constant surveillance of the kitchen floor.
Your puppy takes this position extremely seriously. Their excellent sense of smell makes them particularly qualified to detect food, although their definition of food may occasionally require clarification.
The job involves patrolling beneath countertops, inspecting suspicious noises, and appearing instantly whenever someone opens the refrigerator.
Performance review: Outstanding enthusiasm. Unacceptable interest in dropped onions.
Management note: Keep unsafe foods, including onions, grapes, raisins, chocolate, and cooked bones, out of reach. The inspection department is not authorized to sample everything.
Director of Doorbell Emergencies
Primary responsibility: Announce incoming guests with an enthusiasm usually reserved for royal visits.
Your puppy has been preparing for this assignment all year.
The first guest arrives. Incredible! The second guest arrives. Unprecedented! The third guest arrives, and somehow, the excitement has not diminished.
Of course, puppies respond differently to visitors. Some are eager to greet everyone, while others need more time and space to feel comfortable.
Performance review: Excellent attendance. Volume control needs improvement.
Management note: Calm introductions, positive reinforcement, and a quiet retreat can help puppies navigate busy gatherings.
Senior Under-the-Table Investigator
Primary responsibility: Determine why twelve people are sitting around a table and refusing to share their dinner.
This position requires patience, persistence, and the ability to look exceptionally hopeful.
Your puppy may spend considerable time observing the proceedings, particularly when food smells are involved.
The investigation usually concludes with a disappointed expression and a return to regular puppy activities.
Performance review: Strong observational skills. Repeated attempts to influence witnesses.
Management note: Give your puppy their usual balanced meal and appropriate treats. Thanksgiving leftovers aren’t automatically puppy-safe.
Vice President of Unsolicited Kitchen Supervision
Primary responsibility: Oversee all culinary operations without possessing a single relevant qualification.
Your puppy has questions.
Why is everyone moving so quickly? Why are there so many vegetables? Why has someone placed a large bird in the oven?
Most importantly, why is nobody available to play?
Curiosity is a normal part of puppy development, and new sights, sounds, and smells can attract plenty of attention.
Unfortunately, a busy kitchen isn’t the ideal place for an enthusiastic junior supervisor.
Performance review: Highly motivated. Frequently underfoot.
Management note: A comfortable spot away from hot pans, sharp utensils, and busy walkways is a much better workstation.
Head of Post-Dinner Napping
Primary responsibility: Rest after a long day of contributing very little to Thanksgiving preparations.
After hours of inspecting, investigating, greeting, and supervising, your puppy is exhausted.
This is understandable. Puppies need substantial sleep, and a busy holiday can be particularly stimulating.
The department head has now fallen asleep beside a favorite toy.
Performance review: Exceeds expectations. No further comments.
The Final Performance Review
After careful consideration, we’ve decided to renew your puppy’s contract.
Yes, the kitchen inspection was excessive. The doorbell department caused a minor commotion. And we’re still unclear why the decorative pumpkin required such a thorough examination.
But your puppy also brought laughter to the gathering, gave everyone something to smile about, and reminded us that the best parts of Thanksgiving aren’t always on the dinner table.
Sometimes they’re curled up beneath a blanket, dreaming through the last few hours of a very successful workday.
A Thanksgiving Bonus for Our Favorite Employee
At the end of the day, we wouldn’t trade our little holiday helper for anything. We’re thankful for the curiosity, the comedy, and the companionship that come with raising a puppy.
And if you’re hoping to welcome a four-legged addition to your own family, we’d love to help. Explore our available puppies and meet the personalities who might someday take charge of your Thanksgiving festivities.

Which Halloween Trope Is Your Puppy? Take the Extremely Unscientific Test
Halloween gives us plenty of dramatic characters: fearless heroes, suspicious detectives, lovable sidekicks and snack-fueled troublemakers. But what happens when your puppy joins the cast?
Every puppy has a personality, and you probably know your furry friend’s signature moves better than anyone. Breed traits can offer clues, but individual puppies have their own quirks, energy levels and ways of interacting with the world.
So grab your imaginary clipboard. It’s time for an extremely unscientific investigation.
Which Halloween trope is your puppy?
Choose the answer that sounds most like your pup. Keep track of your letters, then check your result at the end.
1. Your puppy hears a mysterious noise from the other room. What happens?
A. They investigate immediately. Obviously.
B. They bark first and investigate later.
C. They look at you like, “You heard that too, right?”
D. They check if the noise came from the kitchen.2. Someone new walks through the door. Your puppy…
A. Charges over to say hello. New friend acquired.
B. Turns the greeting into a full comedy routine.
C. Watches quietly before deciding it’s safe to join in.
D. Performs an impressive scan for possible treats.3. What is your puppy’s ideal Halloween activity?
A. Exploring every corner of the neighborhood.
B. Being the center of attention. Costumes encouraged.
C. Curling up somewhere cozy with their favorite person.
D. Participating in anything involving food.4. You discover a mysterious box on the floor.
A. Must investigate. Immediately.
B. Must bark at it for dramatic effect.
C. Must observe from a comfortable distance.
D. Must determine if snacks are inside.5. Pick your puppy’s most accurate personality description.
A. Curious and adventurous
B. Playful and hilarious
C. Gentle and comforting
D. Food-loving and determinedWhat’s your Halloween trope?
Mostly A: The Chaos Goblin
Your puppy believes every doorway, leaf pile and suspicious cardboard box deserves investigation. Curious breeds such as Beagles and Dachshunds can have that wonderfully alert, inquisitive streak. Individual dogs still vary, of course, so your little explorer may be part detective and part professional chaos coordinator.
Mostly B: The Neighborhood Celebrity
Your puppy did not audition for the background. They got the starring role.
Playful, social breeds such as Bichon Frises, Boston Terriers and Pugs often bring plenty of personality to the party. Expect enthusiastic greetings, goofy antics and a strong commitment to keeping everyone entertained.
Mostly C: The Blanket Burrito
Your puppy would absolutely survive the spooky movie by finding the softest blanket and staying close to their favorite person.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, Shih Tzus and Havanese can make wonderful companion dogs, but your individual pup’s temperament is the real star of this story.
Mostly D: The Treat Negotiator
Your puppy has one question: “Is that edible?”
Food motivation can make training rewarding and engaging. Labrador Retrievers, Cocker Spaniels and Pembroke Welsh Corgis are just a few breeds known for plenty of enthusiasm and personality. Your snack detective may be onto something.
How to Get to Know Your Pup More
The funniest Halloween trope is only part of the picture. Pay attention to what excites your puppy, what makes them cautious, how they respond to new experiences and what motivates them.
Early, positive experiences with people, places, sounds and everyday environments can also help puppies develop confidence. That’s where we come in. We help families find a furry companion that fits their lifestyle, then provide guidance as that new relationship grows. From understanding personality and breed traits to navigating nutrition, training, socialization and everyday care, we’re here for the whole adventure.
And if your puppy somehow tests as all four tropes?
Yup, sounds about right!

Summer vs. Fall: A Dog’s Completely Biased Review
Humans love debating the seasons.
Some of us live for sunny summer days. Others start counting down for crisp fall mornings the second July arrives. We have our favorites.
Dogs? They have opinions too.
They may not write online reviews or leave comments on neighborhood apps, but they definitely have thoughts about temperature, outdoor adventures, interesting smells, and the number of squirrels available for investigation.
And according to the highly unofficial (but extremely passionate) canine review board, summer and fall are not exactly equal competitors.
Summer: ⭐⭐⭐
“Great for sunshine. Questionable for paws.”
Summer has some serious perks. More backyard time. More outdoor adventures. More opportunities to roll around in questionable patches of grass.
But dogs also notice the heat.
Hot weather can make dogs tire more quickly, and many pups naturally adjust their activity levels by resting more and seeking cooler spots. That midday walk your dog normally loves? Suddenly it may become a slow stroll followed by a dramatic collapse under the nearest shady tree.
The biggest summer complaint from your dog:
“Why is the ground spicy?”
Hot pavement can be uncomfortable for dogs’ paws, which is why cooler morning or evening walks are often better choices during warmer months.
Overall rating?
Three stars.
Excellent sunshine. Limited zoomies.
Fall: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
“Excellent squirrels. Perfect walking weather.”
Fall arrives, and suddenly your dog remembers they are an athlete.
Cooler temperatures make outdoor activities more comfortable for many dogs. Walks become longer. Backyard adventures become more exciting. Energy levels often pick up after the slower pace of hot summer days.
Then there are the smells.
Dogs experience the world through their noses, and seasonal changes bring a whole new collection of scents to investigate. Changing plants, cooler air, and increased wildlife activity can turn an ordinary walk into a full detective mission.
Bonus points awarded for:
- More comfortable temperatures
- Longer adventures
- Maximum sniff opportunities
- Suspicious leaves that require immediate inspection
When Summer Leaves and Fall Arrives, Dogs Notice
Dogs are incredibly tuned into their environment. They notice changes in temperature, daylight, smells, and routines.
You might see your pup become more playful, spend more time outdoors, or suddenly become very interested in every single thing happening in the yard.
They are not being dramatic.
They are simply reviewing the seasonal updates.
Here for Every Season of Puppy Life
Every dog has their own personality, preferences, and funny little habits. Understanding those quirks helps you give them the happiest, healthiest life possible.
